Trick's Bio

Today, platinum recording artist Trick Daddy, is best celebrated and loved by the masses for his signature chart-topping, crunk jumpin’ hip-hop anthems. With five successful albums released to date and his name fixed alongside some of the industry’s finest, it is safe to say that Trick is clearly at the top of his game. Not only has he reached iconic status as rap entertainer extraordinaire, but of equal importance, is gaining increasing recognition for his endless humanitarian efforts.

Trick Daddy was born Maurice Young at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital. With 26 brothers and sisters, he came from a large family, and for Trick, life was never easy. Nothing was ever sugar-coated when the streets of Liberty City became his playground. He recounts that growing up was "hard in the projects,” having to live on welfare and food stamps. However, instead of fostering a defeatist attitude, Trick played the hand he was dealt. He learned how to make light of his situation by diverting all ridicule- “I learned to laugh and joke at myself, so before you know it, they’re on my side.”

On account of his real-to-life experiences and self-instilled values, Trick began to express himself through music and thought-provoking rhyme. The latter, combined with his natural talent, saw him through to his first noted emergence onto the scene in 1996, where he appeared on Uncle Luke’s hit track, “Scarred.”

Shortly thereafter, Trick came out with his debut album, Based On A True Story and was picked up by Slip-n-Slide Records. All his later albums, from the release of www.thug.com (1998) to Thug Matrimony (2001), continued to succeed each other in excellence, and in turn, solidified for Trick a place in hip-hop history. Since then there has been no looking back for the man they now call “The Mayor of Dade County.”

But in spite of his success, under the surface of this nationally acclaimed rap artist lies an individual who is truly dedicated to helping others. Trick takes a great interest in his community and more distinctively, in our future’s blueprint - the youth of America. For many years now Trick has made children a priority in his life and continues to do so by holding numerous “Trick Luvs Da Kids” events for underprivileged children and through actively involving himself in various fundraising charity galas.

He has also received the Florida Entertainment Summit Ambassador Award in acknowledgement of outstanding community service. With a heart of gold to match his gleaming grill, Trick Daddy the founder of the Trick Luvs Da Kids Foundation is in essence a true-to-life hood hero.
